Week 8 Term 1 2021

Hello parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend! As my own children's summer sport season is winding down (cricket is done and a couple of basketball finals to go) there was the chance to go to the beach and enjoy the amazing ocean on our doorstep. I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, as I can safely say that all members of 1K, including the teachers, finished swimming week with very tired bodies and brains.  I was so proud of the way they tried so hard with the double lessons all week and remembered to show our school values while we were there.

If you haven't heard, we got back late from the pool on Wednesday afternoon to find out we had been pranked by 3Mac!  The kids couldn't believe that somehow 3Mac turned our image on our smartboard around, wrote on our whiteboard and moved all of our chairs.  So we decided while they were away on Friday we would have a little fun too swapping and mixing up their trays.  Look at the sheer delight/cheekiness on some of these faces!

Just a few reminders for the week ahead...

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent teacher interviews commence this week. Thank you to those of you that have already made a booking...if you're having any dramas or need to swap it remains an interactive booking sheet so feel free to change as needed. Any other issues please feel free to let me know.  The link has been emailed to all parents but please check your junk mail folder if you haven't come across it yet.  It seems to work on a laptop but not so well on a phone or tablet.

This meeting is designed to give you a brief overview of how your child is progressing with a focus on literacy and numeracy. We will also discuss your child's work habits and just generally how they are travelling. I am very excited to tell you about all the learning we have packed into seven weeks!

As we are on time constraints, each meeting will run for 10 -15 minutes. We have been asked to keep a timer handy to ensure the time of each meeting is fair and equitable with each parent. Please excuse me using a timer when we begin our interview as it is more for myself to make sure I keep on track and not run into the next scheduled meeting. In each of the meetings, there is a lot of information that we would love to share with you, so if we do run over time, I will unfortunately have to stop the meeting and arrange another time to continue it with you. If you have any questions or concerns after the meeting, please feel free to send me an email.

Reading Comprehension Packs These books are collected by Mrs Kemp our librarian on Tuesday mornings and delivered back to us on Wednesday afternoons to hand out. Please feel free if your child has difficulty remembering to bring them inside and put them in the box on Tuesday - just return them back to school as soon as you are finished with them, any day at all, and I can help your child put it in the collection box ready for Tuesday collection.  Unfortunately collection takes place during teaching and learning sessions so sometimes it can be missed if your child forgets to bring it inside the classroom and leaves it in their bags and bags often can't be checked at that point.  Please also feel free to do the same with their library books and return them any day to keep in their big trays as remembering anything on Monday morning can be difficult!

PAT Testing Over the last few weeks, we have been busy completing PAT testing on the iPads. A PAT test measures your child's knowledge, skills and understanding in both reading and maths and helps pinpoint where they are in their learning journey and what areas they need more support in. The children were tested on the Foundation/Preprimary test to see what concepts may need review and to help us with our planning for the year ahead. We have also been conducting literacy screening individual assessments to check their progress in relation to our InitiaLit literacy program.

HomeworkA new homework grid has been glued into your child's homework book and will be sent home tomorrow. If your child was absent or forgot their homework folder last Friday, please send it in tomorrow so we can glue the new homework grid in. This homework will be due Week 9 Wednesday 31st of March.

Bears to Show We Care 🐻🥰

On Friday the 26th of March, all children are invited to bring their favourite bear to school for the day in exchange for a gold coin donation to the missions! The bear must be able to fit inside their school bag (Please no life-sized bears!!). The bears will be allowed in class with them for the day and invited to picnic with them at lunch! This is our Project Compassion Fundraiser for the Term that was initiated by the Year 6 Catholic Ministry group.

Assembly Assemblies will resume back to the normal time of 2:15pm Friday afternoons. We are looking forward to the PP Harmony Day assembly this week.

Thank you for your continued support and assistance.

Kind regards,

Penny and Gemma
