Week 6 Term 2 2021

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend!  It was a lovely rainy one apart from standing in the rain watching the kids play sport although I think they loved it!

Rebecca Cool Visit - On Thursday, we were lucky enough today to have Rebecca Cool come visit the Year Ones and the Year Twos. Rebecca is a WA artist and illustrator who lives in Margaret River. Rebecca has studied at the Claremont School of Fine Art, has her work shown at a number of exhibit and has illustrated a series of books that have won many awards. The children were fortunate enough to listen to Rebecca read the story Isabella's Garden by Glenda Millard. The children learnt about the process Rebecca went through when illustrating the book. She also brought in special original canvas paintings for the children to look at. The children are in the process of making their very own Rebecca Cool style art. We will be painting and collaging our work. What a very COOL day the Year Ones and Twos had!!!!

Sun Chimes -  We made our Sun Chimes on Wednesday with great success!  The kids are so proud of their design creations and they are displayed in our class bay window to catch the sun's rays and hopefully create a bit of relaxing sound when the breeze blows through.  Thank you so so much for all of the helpers who came in and assisted with their hot glue skills!  We all love and appreciate parent helpers.

Star Citizen - Congratulations to Elena for receiving this term's first Star Citizen for the value of Appreciation.  Elena is a wonderful class member who is always noticing when things need looking after and tidying up.  She remembers to use her manners when speaking to others and is polite.

Just a few other reminders this week...

OLC Celebrates National Sorry Day – Wear a T Shirt!

Wednesday the 26th May marks National Sorry Day and Thursday the 27th marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. These are important dates for us to acknowledge as we work toward harmony and intercultural understanding as a nation.

The theme for Reconciliation week this year is: More than a word … Reconciliation takes action. Considering this theme, we are planning on conducting a whole school event involving all OLC students, and parents are asked dress their child with either a black, red or yellow T shirt (any shade or hue is fine) and black sports shorts on the day of Wednesday 26th May. This might not mean buying a T-Shirt – school sports shirts for Meelup and Leeuwin could be worn, or any T’s you already have at home which are predominantly one of these colours will be fine. Stay tuned to our Social Media platforms during Reconciliation Week to see the fruits of out labours!

Footy Cards

A few student have been bringing in footy cards to trade.  Unfortunately in the past, we have had some issues surrounding this with cards going missing and uneven trades.  As such the school position is that students should not bring these cards or any other other toys to school.

Free Dress Naturaliste - Free dress for this Friday

Character Strengths - A message from our OLC Wellbeing team

Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who show Bravery. Can you encourage your child to do the following?

Have a lovely week!

Thank you for your continued support and assistance,

Penny and Gemma
