Week 8 Term 3 2021
Dear Parents,
What a performance on Friday!!! I am so proud of how well they performed with confidence, getting through some excited nerves and beaming smiles throughout! Thank you to the parents who helped their child pick out the perfect 'dad costume' - they definitely all looked the part.
I hope the dads all had a wonderful day today with their families and enjoyed a little bit of sunshine too as an extra gift.
Congratulations to Yara for being our merit award recipient last week for her personal growth in the area of subtraction. She has worked hard to improve her personal skills to solve subtraction number sentences using some of the strategies we have been learning to help us solve some of these problems. Well done Yara, you are a maths magician!
This Thursday 9th of September our school photos will be taking place. Please ensure your child comes to school ready wearing the full winter uniform, including trousers, grey socks and the teal woolen jumpers on this day. Girls may wear skirts or trousers.
Seesaw App and Learning Portfolios
Keep an eye out and don't forget to tick yes to notifications for new additions to your child's learning portfolio. We will have a few more posts out over the next fortnight. This is a great way to keep you informed of some of our tasks, work samples and assessments we are completing across the different learning areas rather than only at the end of year formal reports. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to meet to discuss your child's progress or email me if have any questions or queries at all. I am so proud of the progress all the students are making and the personal development and desire they have shown to achieve personal learning goals.
Operation Christmas Child
All the children in Year 1 and the rest of OLC will soon participate in 'Operation Christmas Child' which is an initiative with the goal of packing shoeboxes full of little surprises to give to a children who may have never received a gift before. By participating in this our children will have a first hand experience aimed at building the school value of compassion.
Your child will be grouped with three other children to contribute and pack the shoe box. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child. We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoe box.
Please see below an example of the provided shoe box for Operation Christmas child:
Soon, your child will bring home a note which shows you what kind of items can be sent away in the shoebox. We are asking for all donations to be brought to school by Tuesday 22nd September (Week 10) please. It is very exciting for the children to share in this initiative which has been a part of the O.L.C. Community for the last 17 years.
There is no need to bring in shoe boxes, as we have been kindly donated them from The Samaritans Purse.
Long Service Leave
I will be taking ten days leave at the end of this term for the last few days of Week 9, Week 10 and the first week next term for some family time (and hopefully a little thawing out up north) but rest assured the there will be no impact to your child or their learning during this time as they are in the safe hands and finest education from Mrs Sorgiovanni.
