Week 7 Term 4 2021

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend and are ready for another week of learning and fun as we prepare for our last weeks as amazing Year Ones!  What a brilliant excursion we experienced last week led by Josh.  We learnt so much new information about the cultural understanding of the landscape, plants, animals and weather around us.  We also learnt so much about traditional life of the Wadandi people and the deep connections they have to the country surrounding us.

In our classroom we are enjoying writing the rest of our own Jack and the Beanstalk stories, applying our mental maths skills and reviewing times and collections of money in maths.  In Science we are continuing to learn about weather changes.  We are also connecting our knowledge about Jesus message in our Making Jesus Real lessons.

Important Week 7 Information

SEESAW - REPORTING
With the end of Semester Two approaching us, your child will soon be receiving their end of year report. Please be reminded that each Seesaw post that has been posted over the semester is a reflection of that individual learning sample and may not necessarily be their overall grade for that subject.

SEESAW - POSTS
You would have seen over the past few weeks a variety of work in different learning areas.

One of these posts was our Cumulative Review assessment results. This aligns with our Initialit reading and spelling program we introduced formally to OLC for PP, Year 1 and Year 2.  This sample summarises how your child is achieving in the aspects of English.  I am so proud of the improvements so many children have made and I highly encourage you to compare these results to the previous Cumulative Review shared last term.  We have also shared an independent writing sample which again, shows the amazing progress in their writing when compared to the sample shared last term.  We are so proud of the personal growth the students have made.

Most recently you would have seen the two Number assessments, which placed a large focus on using the different counting strategies we have been focusing on in our mathematics lessons.  One sample required students to identify and solve addition and subtraction equations that have been presented in a variety of ways and the other encouraged students to focus on which strategy they use to solve worded number problems.  This is one of my favourite topics in Maths and the students did incredibly well, with many students really thinking about the steps their brain uses to solve and beginning to consider the option of using other strategies that may be more efficient.

If you haven't seen any of these posts as yet, get onto SEESAW and I'm sure you will be chuffed with the progress your child is making. We aim to keep you updated with your child's progress across all learning areas and give you as much transparency in your child's learning as possible. Please click to receive notifications in your phone settings if you are using the Seesaw App as it is a good way to know when new posts are shared and a great way to see some of our learning and achievements.

We ask that you review the cover page information for each sample and read them carefully for each task as well as your child's achievement, the comments, results and direct feedback as these are in lieu of the type feedback and information in English and Maths comments you normally receive in the reports on the last day.  If there are any questions or queries about your child's progress in any subject area, please don't hesitate to email us to arrange a meeting or pop your head in before school for a brief chat if you would like.  We are available most days after school now with the exception of Tuesday for staff meetings.

A Message from Mrs Haines about our dance in the Christmas Concert:

Year 1 Christmas Concert Information

The OLC Christmas Concert is Tuesday, 7th Dec (Week 9) commencing at 5.30pm. The theme for the end of year concert dress is ‘Casual Christmas Wear’. Christmas colours, t-shirts, dresses etc and Christmas accessories are all perfect for the occasion. The Year 1's are performing a hip hop dance routine. All Year 1's will need to wear a funky jacket (hoodie, denim, leather, vest, raincoat, windbreaker etc) over their Christmas clothes please. If they would like to wear any 'hip hop accessories' (hat backwards, funky hair styles- please no hair out/covering face, sunglasses etc) that would be fantastic and check they are comfortable and suitable for dancing/won't fall off. Students to wear sneakers please. Any questions please email ellie.haines@cewa.edu.au. I can’t wait for you to see your children shine, they have all blown me away this Semester! Thank you- Mrs Haines
