Week 1 Term 4 2022

Kaya Everyone,

We hope you have had an enjoyable holiday and are ready for the last term of this year. A lot is happening this term and the end will be here before we know it. We are so impressed with how much dedication the students have been putting into their work and how supportive they have been of one another.

Learning Intentions

Spelling: Review ‘oi’ as in coin and ‘oy’ as in boy.

Writing: Focusing on adverbs in our writing and the purpose of them.

Mathematics: How to position numbers on an empty number line to help our calculations.

Star Citizen

Congratulations to Tessa, who was our star citizen recipient on the last day for her consistent display of the school value of respect. Well done, Tessa!

Homework

We have decided to repeat the sound focus concepts in spelling from week 10 so the fluency grids and spelling lists on the back will be the same as the last week of term 3. A new fortnightly list will be sent home next week (week 2/3). Please remember to fill in the information and sign the reading log each night. Books will continue to be changed on Wednesdays and Fridays. It is a good idea to bring in folders each day so they are not forgotten during book exchange times.

Character Strength

Simply put, kindness is being nice to others. As you examine kindness further, a number of important dimensions begin to unfold. Kindness is being generous with others, giving your time, money, and talent to support those who are in need. Kindness is being compassionate, which means to really be there for someone, listening intently to their suffering or just sitting with them and silently supporting them. Such compassion involves a deep concern for the welfare of others. Kindness is also being nurturing and caring to others — to enjoy doing favors for them, to take care of them, and to perform good deeds.

Gathering Time

Just a reminder that we have Gathering Time from 8:30-8:40am in the classroom. The children are required to be at school before the 8:40am bell, to allow them time to organise their materials and transition into the school day. This important time sets the precedent for the day and allows them time to chat to friends, set up their desk and look to see what is happening on the classroom calendar.

Religion Program Information (Church)

Keeping Safe - For Term 4, the children will be learning some concepts relating to Protective Behaviours through the program Keeping Safe during Friday Health classes. The children will be taking part in the Keeping Safe lesson about personal space and body parts. We will be reading stories and emphasising the fact that all parts of their body are private. I understand that the children may laugh and giggle when we talk about the anatomical names, but this is important for every child to know.  This is also a compulsory part of the curriculum.Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to the children about:

• the concept of personal space and how this is different for different people
• correct anatomical names of sexual body parts
• the whole body is private
• appropriate and inappropriate touching.
Research shows that knowing the anatomically correct language terms enhances children’s body image, self-confidence, and openness.
This is in conjunction with the Child Protection Curriculum which has been mandated in all schools in Western Australia. Please feel free email ask any further questions you may have in regards to this.

Seesaw
Seesaw has been a brilliant reporting tool for us as teachers and we love seeing your comments on all your children’s work. We are looking forward to continuing this great reporting method this term along with your child’s end of semester report which will include grades and a general comment. We can’t wait to share more of our amazing work with you before the end of Term Four, so keep an eye out for our amazing work to come!
