Week 2 Term 3 2021

 Good evening families,

Welcome back to Term 3!

I hope you have all had a beautiful mid-year break and managed to get out and about but also rest after a hectic Term 2. I appreciate all your ongoing support in busy times so thank you once again for being so great last term.   Welcome back this week to those who were lucky enough to have an extended break up north enjoying that extra sunshine.

A warm welcome to Zen and the Honeybone family to OLC who joined our class in the last week of last term.  Zen, you have settled in so well and we are so lucky to have you in our 1K team. 

A look into what we will be learning for the first half of this term:

Literacy: We are focusing on persuasive texts which is a new type of writing for us this year! This is a piece of writing that will explain our readers and opinion about a topic and we will use reasons with explanations and details to try to convince our readers to feel, think and agree the same belief as us.  

Maths: In Mathematics we are building our number knowledge and understanding.  This fortnight we will be looking at repeated addition as a pre-concept leading into understanding the basics of multiplication, followed by sharing as a introduction to division for the next fortnight.  We will also be learning about the relationship of addends in an addition sum and understanding turnaround addition facts, as well as the addition strategy of identifying the bigger number and counting on - think big, count on strategy.  

Religion: The Year sixes are receiving their Confirmation so we will be exploring this Sacrament this term followed by a unit of study on the Bible and Prayer.

Science: The focus of science this term will be chemical science - understanding what things can be changed and how - through heat or cooling temperature or by physically changing the object by moving and if it can be changed back.

Health: We are beginning to learn about friendhships and relationships and delve more into the Friendology program that is a part of OLC.  

Technologies: Digital technology systems including introduction to data and coding.

Design Technologies
Last term in the final week, we completed our design focus by creating our own animal.  This linked in with our biology unit about animal features.  We were lucky enough to have our own assistants on the day of building as our buddies came to help us out.  

Homework

We have resumed homework with the usual reading, spelling list and one fluency grid for each week.  These words to be read and spelled relate directly to our class learning in the InitiaLit program. The homework instructions will continue to be sent home in the fortnightly grid style and collected at the end of each fortnight. Homework is due this Friday 30th of July. If your child is not going to be at school please ensure that they bring in their RED Reading folder and their homework book on Thursday. This enables us to check over their work and glue in the next fortnight's homework.   

Seesaw

Your child will bring home an invitation this week to connect with the 1K classroom via the Seesaw App. Please follow the prompts carefully to set your account. This will involve downloading the app and scanning the QR code for families to access their child's individual learning journal.  I also highly recommend you click 'yes' to the notifications prompt as then you will be sent a reminder each time there is something new uploaded.  We are hoping to try to share something at least each week or fortnight to show the great learning that is happening in our classrooms. 

Seesaw is an App that I'm sure many of you are already familiar with from our stint with online learning last year but basically it is a platform that allows you to see some of the great work that your child is doing in the classroom. Please make sure that it is the Seesaw family app, not the Seesaw Class App.   

Please note that this will be used purely as a means for you to keep up to date with your child's learning. Any communication with myself will stay as per usual.

Canteen 
Just a reminder that canteen will commence this week on Tuesdays and Thursday's ONLY.

Week 1 Term 4 2022

Kaya Everyone ,   We hope you have had an enjoyable holiday and are ready for the last term of this year. A lot is happening this term and the end will be here before we know it. We are so impressed with how much dedication the students have been putting into their work and how supportive they have been of one another.   Learning Intentions   Spelling: Review ‘oi’ as in coin and ‘oy’ as in boy.   Writing: Focusing on ad verbs in our writing and the purpose of them.     Mathematics: How to position numbers on an empty number line to help our calculations.   Star Citizen Congratulations to Tessa, who was our star citizen recipient on the last day for her consistent display of the school value of respect. Week 2 Term 4 2022

  Kaya Everyone ,   What a great start to Term 4, it has been wonderful to spend time with the children to hear about  what they did over the holidays. We look forward to more sunshine and have enjoyed watching the flowers bloom as we enter to Wadandi Noogar season of Kambarang.   Learning Intentions   Spelling: We introduce digraphs ‘ear’ (ear) and ‘ eer ’ (cheer).   Writing: We introd uce contractions this week.   Contractions are  a way to join together two words in order to make them shorter .     Mathematics: We look at measuring time by using calendars, learning the sequence order days of the week and months of the year.   Merit Award Winner Congratulations to Indi-Rose for being the first 1K member to recieve her award at our first school assembly for the year.
