Week 10 Term 1 2022

 Kaya (hello),

The term is coming to a quick end. There have been some challenges with the current Covid situation, however, we believe that this has not stopped the children from learning what is required in Year 1. They have all taken on their learning with a leap and bounds and the class is now into an excellent routine.  Holidays for rest and recharging with some precious family time are just around the corner!

Parent Teacher Meetings

Starting Term 2, 2022 face-to-face parent meetings will be available again. More information will be coming out regarding parents entering the classroom. The best way to stay up with what is happening in the classroom is to read the OLC newsletter, blog and view all assessment tasks and weekly announcements on Seesaw.

We have sent out requests to the parents that we require a meeting with. If you did not receive a meeting request email and would like one, please feel free to email us to arrange a face-to-face meeting in Term 2 with you.

Easter - New Life

This time of the year is very important in our Catholic lives. This is when we celebrate Jesus' resurrection. The children have been learning that Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and was risen 3 days later on Easter Sunday. This is why we, as Catholics, celebrate Easter. This coming Thursday Year 1’s will be having their own classroom Easter Liturgy.

OLC Character Strength of the Week

Currently, at OLC we are focusing on modelling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who show humility. "What does the Lord require of you, but to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God" Micah 6:8.

Last day of term

This coming Thursday is the last day of Term 1, 2022. We hope you enjoy your Easter break and can spend some quality time with your family.

Learning Intentions

Maths: We can say how capacity and volume are in our everyday life.

English: We can describe parts of a narrative story.

Free dress

On Thursday, Leeuwin has free dress. This means nice attire and no dress-ups. Enclosed shoes will need to be worn for safety.

Homework

Home readers and fluency grids with spelling lists will start again next term. We do recommend that you read to your child over the school holidays and ask them to retell the story to you in their own words.

Absentees

If your child is away we ask that you fill in an online absentee form via the school webpage link or at the office. It is in the information tab on the school website or google 'OLC dunsborough absentee form' to find internet search. Another option is a paper form from the office. While we appreciate being told in person ahead of time about upcoming absences, unfortunately we cannot complete our roll with verbal communication and require these forms to be completed.

It has been an absolutely wonderful first term of Year 1 and I am so proud of how they have really settled in and the personal growth they have all shown over the last ten weeks. We thank you for the support that you have given us over this term and wish you all a happy and safe break.
